Litigation Experience
Extensive civil litigation experience in state and federal courts in
Illinois, Oregon and California:
-Numerous jury trials, including obtaining a jury verdict in excess of
$12,000,000 on behalf of a small Oregon company for trademark
infringement (one of the largest verdicts of its kind in Oregon);
-Lead defense counsel at trial and appeal in a seminal copyright
case in the Seventh Circuit;
-Lead defense counsel in the groundbreaking, and heavily
publicized, internet law case involving the conversion of the
“sex.com” domain in California;
-Cases involving wrongful death, employment discrimination,
legal malpractice, employer liability law, construction defect,
products liability, copyright, breach of contract and unfair
business practice litigation.

Legal Management Experience
Assistant Managing Attorney (1987-1993) in Chicago law firm with
high volume practice providing a wide range of legal services to union
plan members under a benefit plan. Designed and implemented systems
to track and measure attorney time by case type and task to use
as a basis for optimizing attorney efficiency.

Managing Attorney (2002-2008) for Oregon staff counsel offices
of Safeco Insurance Co., responsible for operation of two offices
with fifteen attorneys. Office was responsible for defending Safeco
customers in litigation throughout the State of Oregon, as well as defending
Safeco in first party cases. Developed systems for increasing capacity
without adding employees through carefully planned utilization of contract
and temporary attorneys and support staff. Lead project manager for
nationwide legal office outsourcing initiative.
